You’ve just received your new LED neon sign, and you’re excited to see it glow. Proper installation is key to ensuring it looks its best and operates safely for years to come. While many signs are designed for easy DIY setup, following these steps will guarantee a professional and secure result.
Your Pre-Installation Checklist
- Inspect Your Package: Before you start, carefully unpack your sign and inspect all components. Ensure you have the sign, the power adapter, any remote controls, and all the mounting hardware (screws, standoffs, hanging chains).
- Choose Your Mounting Method: Decide how you want to display your sign. Most come with options for direct wall mounting or hanging from a ceiling. Your choice will determine the tools and hardware you need.
- Gather Your Tools: For wall mounting, you’ll typically need a drill, a screwdriver, a level, and a measuring tape. For hanging, you might need pliers to adjust the chain length.
Step-by-Step Wall Mounting Guide
- Position the Sign: Hold the sign against the wall where you want to install it. Use a level to make sure it’s perfectly straight. Use a pencil to lightly mark the wall through the pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backing.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Set the sign aside. If you’re drilling into drywall, it’s best to use wall anchors for a secure fit. Drill pilot holes at the spots you marked. Make sure the drill bit size matches the anchors.
- Install Hardware: Insert the wall anchors into the holes. Then, screw the mounting standoffs into the anchors. These create a small gap between the sign and the wall, which produces a nice floating effect.
- Mount the Sign: Align the holes in your sign with the standoffs and secure it in place with the provided screws. Don’t overtighten them.
- Connect the Power: Plug the power adapter into the sign and then into a nearby outlet. Use cable clips to neatly hide the cord for a clean finish.
Important Safety Note: If your installation requires any complex electrical work, such as hardwiring the sign, always consult a licensed professional electrician. Safety should always be your top priority.
